AFSCME Local 1598 Newsletter
Greetings
brothers and sisters!
This
year has been a whirlwind of activity for Local
1598.
As
most of you may know, Dottie Bornice, the local's
office manager for 27 years, was diagnosed with
a brain tumor in July 2006, she retired shortly
thereafter, and moved to Florida with her daughter
and son in-law to seek treatment. Sadly, she passed
away in April 2007.
The
local office in Bristol, PA got a much needed
face lift and some updated office equipment, not
to mention a part time office manager, Ella Hamell.
Ella was an AFSCME member for 20+ years and served
on Local 1598's executive board as Treasurer for
over 15 years. She is also an AFSCME retiree and
President of the AFSCME retirees.
In addition to getting the office running smoothly
again, we have been working for several months
to create website for our members. This is a sorely
needed tool for the membership. We will be adding
new information for our members in order to alleviate
the high cost of postage and the possibility of
some members not receiving information in a timely
manner.
October
6, 2008 marks the 50th anniversary
of Local 1598! We are in the midst of planning
some exciting events and prizes to give away at
the general membership meetings. Stay tuned for
updates…
Lastly, in April 2007 I was voted into office
on Council 13's executive board as vice president
of AFSCME county workers statewide. I look forward
to not only serving my local, but serving all
the county workers across the state of Pennsylvania!
Yours in Solidarity,
Linda B. Vuono
President
of Local 1598
Council 13 Vice President of County Workers
